Ethan's New Crib

I am writing from room 5317, our new home! I went back to see Ethan at my usual time yesterday morning to find him all ready to go. We wheeled him down around 10:00 a.m. and we've been hanging out ever since!

I didn't expect to feel so many emotions with the move. I was excited to be going to a private room where we can spend as much time as we want with him. I was proud of the progress he's made. I was thankful. I was scared to be responsible for more of his care. I was sad to leave the PCICU and the wonderful nurses there. I cried, a lot.

It's probably harder now that Jeramie's back at work. I still don't feel lonely, just a little overwhelmed with being in the room alone with Ethan. The nurses are great, but the patient to nurse ratio is higher now that we're on the floor. I'm used to his nurse sitting beside his bed and reacting to his every move. I know this is preparing us to be at home with him, and I'm thankful for that, it's just a harder adjustment than I had imagined.

Ethan is doing really well, though! He had a great night last night and has been sleeping most of the morning. It's so fun to just be able to pick him up and hold him whenever I want. Feel free to come by and visit us; just make sure you call before you come. I plan to take full advantage of this bed beside my little man!

Thanks for all of the encouragement and well wishes on the new room! Continue to pray....we're still not home yet!!

My heart actually leaps with joy at Ethan's progress. I am just so overwhelmed by God's people and the power of prayer ... God is so awesome!! I'm so happy for you & Jeramie. I have no doubt at what great parents you are. You may feel a little nervous right now, but look how far you've come -- I read it in your words every day Joye. And God will continue to carry you all, through whatever & whenever. I can't wait to see my great-nephew -- up close & personal. Congratulations on this big step. Love you guys!!!

So happy for you guys. I feel like I should know this little man. I love him so much just from keeping up with his progress and from lifting him up in prayer everyday. I hope to be able to meet him sometime. I hope mommy and daddy are doing o.k. Let me know if there is anything at all we could do for you.

Step-down is bittersweet, but every day will get a little easier. The alone time is nice, but med students coming in while you're asleep is so not cool! But the best part is that step-down means Ethan doesn't need the picu anymore! Yay God! Go Ethan!

I am so proud of Ethan,I cannot wait to meet such a little champ. Reading his story and seeing the faith you and Jeramie have is truly an inspiration. I think people are not defined by who they are when life is easy, but how they react when life "Sends them to Holland". You, Jeramie and Ethan are the perfect example of strength, dignity, love and faith. Lots of love and admiration!!
