The Pinterest Post & Help Wanted

As with many internet trends, I tend to be a little late to the game. MySpace was outdated by the time I learned about it, I finally gave into Twitter (and since departed from it) after using Jeramie's account for the longest time, and I doubt I'll ever actually own a smart phone. The same holds true with Pinterest. I've heard friends talking about it for months, but had little desire to sign up for it - a: Lord knows I don't need one more thing to check, or keep up with and, b: I'm not exactly the craftiest person in the world.

OK - so I'm not crafty at all, but whatever.

But, after hearing Ethan's developmental therapist mention all these awesome ideas during our sessions, then following it up with, "I saw it on Pinterest!" I thought it might be about time to try it out. And I am so glad I did! I quickly learned that I didn't need to be Martha Stewart to implement most of the ideas on there, and I could only let it suck me in as much as I let it. (I succumbed to the "Everything" tab once. Never again.)

The one thing I told myself when I finally started using my account was to actually DO all the things I pinned. Maybe not immediately, but the last thing I wanted was some other outlet for me to show off how cool I think I am. I wanted it to be a place for me to keep legitimate ideas, and a place to reference in order to carry them out. What I've learned is that I may not ever be my Mama when it comes to creating things, but I want to be. I want our home to be full of things our family has created, and I want Ethan to feel the pride that comes from creating something out of nothing.

So far, I've tried out a couple different recipes, a few crafts, and I have some big ideas for Christmas gifts this year! If you follow my boards, I can tell you that the Mexican stuffed shells are delicious, and the homemade dryer sheet really works.   I think Ethan appreciates a change-up in activities from time-to-time, and has helped with one craft so far.

Jeramie thinks this one looks a little creepy.  I'm personally a fan of his multi-eyed friend to the right.

This next little number was a girls' night project and, honestly, I think I would have gone crazy if I didn't have someone to talk to while doing it!

The wreath didn't work on our door, and this space above our mantle was begging for some love!

Felt flowers - the possibilities are endless.

I'm having fun, for sure, and even surprising myself a little! So much so, that I'm ready to tackle another area of our downstairs - the sliding glass door.  The only problem is that I'm at a loss for ideas, and Pinterest (nor Google) has been much help.  Here's what it looks like now:

I have an extreme dislike for the vertical blinds, and I want them gone.  However, we live in a townhome community and need privacy from our backyard neighbors.  Curtains are my first thought, but how does that play into what we've already hung? If we do go with curtains, do we hang them the height of the back door, or level with the windows, and will that be too much fabric in one area? Do we get rid of the window curtains altogether and opt for some other type of window treatment? Any and all suggestions are welcome, and appreciated!

And, if you haven't checked out Pinterest yet, you should! I'm pretty sure you won't be sorry.

Aaaaah, I love Pinterest! I took a while to sign up, but am addicted, now! I've made LOTS of (super fattening) recipes off of it and all have been amazing. We've also done tons of crafts. I LOVE your ghosts!

As for the window, I'm the worst interior decorator EVER, lol. Maybe you could do shutters that just come up half way? That would give you privacy, yet let in light... I hate blinds, too!

Pinterest is by far my favorite way to organize ideas and crafts! I'm a visual learner, and think in visual clues, so Pinterest is perfect for me!

For your sliding glass door, if you want to do the curtains, I think you should hang them the same height as the window treatments - it will make your ceilings look taller, and make the area much more cohesive. I don't think it would be too much fabric...it should end up looking like you have two big windows there, not a door and a window as it actually is.

Here's a pic of kinda how it might look:

Oh, and one last thing about pinterest...I love that I can go back through all my "starred" blogs in reader and put them where I can visually see them...I can't tell you how many starred posts I have that I can never find b/c the picture is in my head and not on my reader.

Good luck!!

Ok, I'm going to try this one more time. I have commented here and on the post before (about our meeting) and my comments aren't sticking! :(

So first of all, love the pics from our day. We all had such a blast and can't wait to get together again! We have to do it again very soon!

I love the wreath! I need to be better about actually doing things I pin. How crazy is it to pin a ton of stuff and never do any of it?! That's me all the way! I'm going to be better.

I think you could do curtains at the door. I agree with the person above to hang them at the same height and I think they'd be fine. Good luck! :)
