Day 5 - Organ Transplant and Donation

Did you know?

According to the Organ Procurement and Transplant Network (as of January 25th):

1.  Across the United States, there are 288 children (0-17 years old) waiting for a heart.

2.  Ten of those children are right here in North Carolina.  All ten of them are patients at Duke.

3.  As of last night, there are 74,422 active waiting list candidates - all ages, all organs.

And, from OrganDonor.gov:

4.  "Eighteen people will die each day waiting for an organ."

5.  "One organ donor can save up to eight lives."

6.  "There are no charges to the donor’s estate or the donor’s family for any procedures or materials associated with the process of donation."

Take action!

Become a donor.  Registering to be an organ and tissue donor is simple.  Find your state on the map and you'll be directed to their donor registry page.  I'm registered.  Are you?
