Day 7 - Research

Did you know?

1.  "The American Heart Association’s funding for pediatric cardiac research is second only to the federal government."

"During the past year, we [the AHA] spent almost $7.94 million on new research awards broadly related to children’s heart disease." (

2.  "The Children’s Heart Foundation is the only organization that was created to exclusively fund congenital heart defect research."

"The Children’s Heart Foundation has over $5.3 million to 52 basic science, translational and clinical CHD research projects at leading research centers across the US and Canada." (

Even still...

3.  "CHD research is grossly under-funded relative to the prevalence of the disease." (

4.  "In the last decade death rates for congenital heart defects have declined by almost 30% due to advances made through research." (

Your dollars - OUR dollars - make a difference, and our children - MY son - greatly benefits from research discoveries!

Take action!

1.  Participate in local AHA programs such as the Heart Walk and Jump Rope for Heart.  If you live in the Raleigh-Durham area and donate to the Triangle AHA office, you can rest assured that your money stays local and flows into research opportunities at both Duke and UNC.

2.  Consider giving to the Children's Heart Foundation.  In fact, it's easy to do so this month.  Just take your child, niece, nephew, or neighbor to the nearest Build-A-Bear Workshop and choose to donate $1 towards CHD research through the Children's Heart Foundation.  Last year, over $178,000 was raised!

Tomorrow, I want to hear from you!
